who I am as a creator

Markell Robinson - Filmmaker

Two men are standing outside and looking through a window or glass door. The man on the left is holding a hat and a camera and has a serious expression. The man on the right is gesturing with his hand and speaking, wearing a light-colored hoodie with "ESSENTIALS" written on it.

What motivates my creativity is the idea of creating something that doesn’t already exist in my world. We’re surrounded every day by things made by someone else, and I constantly ask myself: why not create it myself?

When people look at my work, I want them to feel a sense of wonder and amazement. I aim to create images and films that invite a second look — where new details reveal themselves each time, rewarding attention and curiosity.

BACKGROUND & EDUCATION

I studied Film & Television at Montclair State University, graduating in May 2024. Filmmaking became the perfect medium for my curiosity — it allows me to explore different worlds, ideas, and perspectives without constantly jumping from career to career. Owning a camera gives me access to stories everywhere, and I treat that access with intention.

My education shaped my approach to preparation. I place a strong emphasis on pre-production and planning so that when it’s time to shoot, I can stay present, react instinctively, and allow new ideas to develop organically in the moment.

  • "Storytelling matters to me because everyone has a story — the challenge is learning how to tell it. "

  • "Consistency and discipline are the values that guide my work; I believe they’re the foundation of success in any creative field."

  • "As a creator, one thing to know about me is this: I’m ambitious, rich in ideas, and I don’t stop at no for an answer.."
